Fall seems the perfect time to take stock, retrench and make changes before we roll over to the new year.
2024 has been a challenge. With a huge number of life changes that happened this year pattern production slowed to a trickle.
There was a lot of traveling to juggle and a huge amount of logistics to try to figure out. Some of which I'm still trying to resolve so that I can continue to be productive while away from the USA for part of the year.
I haven't been entirely idle though!
BLOG:
There is so much historic fashion information in the archives to share. Here's what's coming up on the blog:
Mondays - Fashion reports from various eras, taken from source material. At first these will be rereleases of my posts from my Patreon (now closed) but I will interweave new material fairly quickly.
Wednesdays - Updates on work in progress, previews of patterns, and whatever else strikes my fancy.
Fridays - Construction, Drafting & Techniques Day. I'll be featuring a rotating slate of information on all aspects of pattern drafting, sewing, fitting and "how to do it" through the vintage lens of different periods.
PATTERNS:
I've set up an organizational board to get outstanding patterns into a streamlined system so that I can track each piece of the process. From digitizing to finished package. Just having a process I can view should help speed things along. And help me stay on track, rather than the scattershot process I was using before.
GRADING:
I've been doing a lot of research on better ways to grade to avoid some of the problems when going up from smaller to much larger sizes. Shoulder length can be a real issue (along with bodice length and sleeves). While there is some information out there on modern drafting for the industry -- vintage patterns are a whole different thing.
Luckily the depth of the archives will provide me with enough material to do some comparison measurements over several eras. This should give me enough information to change my current grade rules to something that will work better at larger sizes.
ON-LINE CLASSES:
This is something that I've been wanting to do for years - and after a number of false starts with a couple of companies that were not user friendly - I've found something that seems to work well in testing.
The hard part is trying to figure out what to launch first! If you have some ideas, or things you'd love to see - please leave your suggestions in the comments below.
