"There is no dispute that all-in-one dresses are most convenient and appropriate for all different occasions. Especially this season when the simplicity of lines and minimal trims make for ease of care.
"The surprise for this fall is the new emphasis in separate skirt and blouse combinations. While previously only seen for sports or outdoor activities, these are now being introduced to be worn for day or afternoon events.

"One of the advantages is that for the woman who wishes to be stylish on a budget, one blouse may be matched with two or three different skirts (or visa versa). Thus giving the appearance of a wider wardrobe while staying well within one's means.
"Skirts have not seen much change in design or shape since last year. Being in the main very straight and featuring either long pleats, drapes or asymmetrical hems. The entire interest in skirts is owed to the fabric used. Tweeds or woolens are rarely seen, being replaced by linen, cotton or silk in order for the design elements to lay properly.

"Colors for these individual skirts are rich and muted. Black is much seen, along with tobacco brown, olive green and brick red.
"The separate blouses are lively and show much ingenuity of design. Here we see a myriad of subtle trims and contrasts. Dozens of small buttons down the front are everywhere, and edgings of dark contrast bands are found on cuffs, fronts and sleeves.

"The vest-style is very popular, featuring a large or small V shape at the lower front that is reminiscent of a man's suit. While in the main, blouses are without collars -- having a bias binding or simple facing -- scarf collars and pointed shirt style collars are still seen.

"Lace is found more frequently. Attached to collars and sleeves as trim, sometimes the fabric is left underneath, and sometimes it is cut away to expose the wearer in a daring style most adopted by the young."
